The marina used to serve as a port of refuge
The marina used to serve as a port of refuge for inland navigation. After the Volkerak was closed off at Willemstad, the port lost its function as port of refuge and a booming aquatic sports centre started to develop. In the 1980s a piece of land was excavated for sand extraction. The amount of available water surface for Jachthaven Waterkant, formerly known as Waterkantships, doubled.

Passionate about creating a beautiful and excellent marina
Rob and Ellen van Engelen have been the proud owners of Jachthaven Waterkant since the year 2000. When they took over the marina, they eagerly started to catch up with all the overdue maintenance. They replaced all the docks and dock posts in 2007. The power and water supply have been newly installed. Signposts were put up and a discharge pipe was installed. In the winter of 2007/2008 a brand new, state-of-the-art, floating utility building with showers and restrooms was placed, the unpaved section of the terrain was asphalted and a double barrier was installed at the entrance of the marina.

Most of the renovations and improvements were completed in 2010. However, we will keep up our efforts to create the perfect marina.
